Color and Sound is designed with your privacy in mind. We believe you should be able to enjoy music visualization without sacrificing your personal data.

The Short Version

• Your audio stays on your device — We never see or store what you listen to
• No account required — Use the app without giving us your email
• No tracking pixels — We don't embed social media trackers
• Minimal analytics — Only basic, anonymized usage data

Data We Process Locally

All audio processing for visualization happens entirely on your device. When you use Color and Sound:

• Audio from your microphone, system, or files is processed locally by your browser
• No audio data is ever transmitted to our servers
• We cannot hear, see, or store what you're listening to
• Visualization happens in real-time on your device

This means your listening habits, music choices, and audio content are completely private. Even we don't know what you're visualizing.

Data We Collect

Analytics (Optional)

We use privacy-focused analytics to understand how people use Color and Sound. This helps us improve the app. We collect:

• Page views and feature usage (anonymized)
• Device type and browser (e.g., "iPhone, Safari")
• Approximate location (country level only)
• Crash reports and errors

We do not collect:

• Your IP address (we hash it to prevent identification)
• Any audio or music data
• Personal identifiable information
• Tracking across other websites

Purchase Information

If you purchase the full version, payment is processed by our payment provider (such as Stripe). We receive:

• Confirmation that a purchase was made
• A transaction reference (not your full card details)
• Your email address (only if you provide it for receipt)

We never see or store your full credit card number. Payment processors handle this securely.

Data Storage

Color and Sound stores preferences and settings locally on your device using browser storage (localStorage). This includes:

• Your selected visual preset
• App settings (e.g., fullscreen preference)
• Purchase status

This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly sync it (which we don't currently offer).

GDPR Compliance (European Union)

Color and Sound is designed to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the German Bundesdatenschutzgesetz (BDSG).

Your Rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access — Request a copy of any data we hold about you
• Rectification — Correct any inaccurate data
• Erasure — Request deletion of your data
• Portability — Receive your data in a portable format
• Objection — Object to certain types of processing

Since we collect minimal data, most of these are simple: we have very little to share, correct, or delete. But we take these rights seriously.

Legal Basis

Our legal basis for processing is:

• Legitimate interest for anonymized analytics (improving the product)
• Contract fulfillment for purchase processing

Data Location

Any server-side data (analytics, purchase records) is stored on servers in the EU/EEA or in jurisdictions with adequate data protection (e.g., US with appropriate safeguards).

Cookies

Color and Sound uses only essential cookies required for the app to function (such as remembering your purchase status). We do not use:

• Advertising cookies
• Social media tracking cookies
• Third-party marketing cookies

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Cloudflare — Hosting and security (privacy-focused CDN)
• PostHog / Plausible — Privacy-focused analytics
• Stripe / Payment Provider — Secure payment processing

Each of these services has their own privacy policy. We've chosen them specifically for their privacy practices.

Children's Privacy

Color and Sound is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated through the app or our website. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent version.
